Water Management/Aquatic Eco Technology

Water Management/Aquatic Eco Technology is a bachelor program in English at HZ University which offers a broad education in the field of water.
The main water problems we have to deal with in society are water pollution, flooding and water shortage. On a national and international level there are not enough water managers to cope with these problems (Unesco-IHE Delft research 2004). In the period up to 2020 the demand for the Dutch delta technology sector will be 10.000 employees. As a result there will be a shortage of higher educated staff of 16% in 2020 (Panteia, September 2010).
The BWM course is directed at a broad perspective of water and in this is unique as the students are involved in sea water, fresh water and all its varieties. The bachelor course is also unique in that it combines knowledge of water ecology with water techniques (e.g. hydraulics).
Business and industry have many questions about wastewater treatment and recirculation of water (water pinch). There is an increasing attention for water chains: collection, transport, use, reuse and discharge of water.
Due to the climate change, it is raining more and more intensely in some regions. To cope with this amount of water, we sometimes need to change the water system. To realize this, spatial planning is often needed.
Bachelors of Water Management are water problem solvers. They are able to use their skills and apply concepts to come to useful solutions for different kinds of problems.
