Mathematical Engineering is a bachelor programme that operates on the border of mathematics and IT. It focuses on data and information and their importance concerning all sorts of organisations. More than ever, information is the fuel of the 21st century. Without information, organisations can't function properly. They depend on having the right information at the right time, in the right place. And that information comes from data. The more data we assemble and combine, the more we need engineers with mathematical knowledge and skills to find relevant information amongst existing data. Mathematical engineering is therefore a creative and exciting discipline, taught in a small-scale international programme. Being part of this multicultural course broadens your horizon and provides a unique opportunity to learn from people from all over the world.
Every year is divided into two semesters. Semesters are organised around a central theme, such as databases, software engineering, algorithms or big data. You take math and IT courses related to the semester's theme. Every semester also includes a large project, in which you combine the subjects of that semester with a large assignment. Projects are done in groups, enabling you to develop professional skills, such as collaboration, leadership and entrepreneurship. Most projects involve real clients, including companies, non-profit organisations, and governmental organisations.
The academic year is divided into terms. The first year forms the foundation of the programme. It gives a broad overview of Mathematical Engineering. In the second year, you will deepen your mathematics and IT knowledge. In the third year, you will do an internship at a company of your choice. In the final year, you conclude your studies by setting up and conducting your own applied research project within a company.
Once you are graduated, your options are endless. You could work for any company or organisation that uses math or IT. For instance, setting up computer networks, developing software, processing large amounts of data or managing databases.
