Anthropology and Development Studies

Anthropology and Development Studies is a one year master degree in English at Radboud University.

It has two specializations: Anthropology of Mobility and Development Studies.

Anthropology –it revolves around the themes of Culture and Mobility. Mobility is here not only related to physical movement of people and goods (as in migration, trade, or the case of refugees), but also encompasses movement in cultural phenomena and the social relations that hinge on those phenomena.

Development Studies-it examines issues such as poverty, discrimination and sustainable development. By choosing this specialization you will explore in detail the socio-cultural, economic and political structures related to these issues.
Studies are conducted in Africa (Ghana, Uganda, South Africa), Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, China) and Latin America (Chile, Peru, Central America).

Basic subjects:

-for Anthropology of Mobility: Mobility and the Art of Fieldwork, Anthropology and Mobility, Specialization Seminars, Qualitative Research Methods and Design, Field Research Anthropology

-for Development Studies: New Actors in Development, Arrangements in Development Fields, Mixed Methods

Field research: 3 months

Possible careers: politician or CEO of cultural institutions; adviser in organizations such as the UN, Oxfam NOVIB, Cordaid or Dutch Refugee Council; researcher at the university, unions, consultancy or private institution; advisor or researcher in the central government, lector of social studies in secondary or vocational education; journalist.

Admission requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in the field of anthropology
• Cover Letter
• Copy of ID
• English certificate:
A) IELTS certificate with a minimum of 6 points; TOEFL Internet version at least 80 or TOEFL 213 computer version.
B) If you have a bachelor degree in English you do not need a certificate
