Is your passion linked to the human system? Are you interested in the workings of the brain, or would you be the one that bridges the different understandings of fundamental biological processes and health & disease in humans? Your choice could be Medical Biology!

Where studying Biology starts with a fascination for life, Medical Biology shares this trait and specifies it towards the human system. Master's program focuses on molecular and cellular life processes of fundamental biology and medical research.

Radboud University program is unique because it is a combination of fundamental research and translation of findings into clinical applications. This is facilitated by close cooperation with the University Medical Center.

The program offers the following specializations:

Master's specialisation: Human Biology The Human Biology specialisation combines fundamental human biology with clinical studies. It provides you with extensive biological knowledge and experience in working with animal and patient samples. In this way you’ll be trained to bridge the gap between biomedical research results and clinical practice.

Master's specialisation: Medical Epigenomics Our skin cells, liver cells, and blood cells all contain the same genetic information. Yet these are different types of cells, each performing their own specific tasks. How is this possible? The explanation lies in the epigenome: a heritable, cell-type specific set of chromosomal modifications, which determines cell identity and regulates gene expression. Radboud University is world-leading in studying the epigenome and proudly offers the only Dutch Master’s specialisation on this topic.

Master's specialisation: Neurobiology A mechanistic understanding of brain organisation and function is the first step in conquering brain diseases. Are you motivated to work towards this goal from a multi-disciplinary perspective? While molecular and cellular neurobiologists determine the machinery that is responsible for creating neural circuits, systems and network biologists shed light onto how the coordinated actions of neurons lead to cognition and behaviour.

Master's specialisation: Science in Society Science and technology have a profound influence on society, but the reverse is also true: society significantly shapes the ways in which science and technology evolve. However, experience shows that scientists on the one hand and the general public, government and businesses on the other aren’t always able to clearly understand one another. That is why experts with a background in science and an understanding of social processes are indispensable. This specialisation will equip you with the knowledge, tools and skills to be a professional intermediary between science and society whilst getting a broader societal perspective.

Master's specialisation: Science, Management and Innovation Many organisations struggle with societal challenges such as sustainability, health, energy, and IT security. Addressing these challenges requires knowledge in the field of natural or computer sciences but also from other disciplines, such as policy, management and innovation. Solutions for such challenges require scientists with an analytical background as well as a business and societal understanding. This Master’s specialisation will provide you with expertise in a societal challenge and the ability to speak the language of policy and business.
