Coffee machines, phones, medical devices; these all need to be ‘designed’. When designing these products, lots of questions need to be asked and answered; What does the customer need? How does the customer expect the product to look? How can the product be manufactured? What materials should be used? How can it be tested beforehand? How should it be brought to market?

The study programme BSc Industrial Design Engineering helps you answer these questions. This unique study programme responds to the growing demand for ID engineers from the design and manufacturing industries.

ICT & Infrastructure

In the ICT & Infrastructure bachelor study programme you will be trained as an infrastructure specialist. You will be the engineer who ensures that all information and communication systems work optimally and continue to work on the infrastructure that has been created.

Infrastructure specialists also know how to manage, monitor and secure all IT-resources.

Consider also the rapidly changing technology (virtualisation - cloud) and the increase in the complexity of current IT landscapes. New management, monitor tooling and the ongoing further automation of management tasks also play a role in the daily practice of the infrastructure specialist.

In addition to managing existing IT infrastructure, the specialist is also capable of advising on a new infrastructure, designing, testing and realizing it from a set of requirements and new technology. In short, a fascinating spectrum of activities to optimally serve and support ICT systems for companies and their users.

In the first year you follow courses and projects in five study programmes. In the first semester you will focus on basic ICT related subjects, and go more indepth in one of the five programmes; from the second semester you will focus on more subjects related to either ICT & Technology, ICT & Software Engineering, ICT & Business, ICT & Media Design or ICT & Infrastructure. In the second year you will spend 3 days of classes in your chosen study programme and 2 days in 1 or 2 specialisations of your choice. At the end of the second year, you can decide what your final specialisation will be. In the third year you will do your first internship for six months. The last semester of the fourth year will be your graduation semester in a company.

ICT&Media Design

The study programme ICT & Media Design is about the design and development of the relation and interaction between humans and media technology. You’ll be trained as a user experience designer and developer. You’ll learn to discover user and customer needs, to create new creative and meaningful concepts, develop prototypes and gorgeous UX/Visual designs. You improve your work via expert feedback and user testing. Techniques that you learn to use include frontend development techniques like HTML, CSS, JavaScript and related libraries. You’ll learn how to apply storytelling, user centered design and gamification.

Logistics Engineering

The complexity of processes and the relationships between manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, demands intelligent creation of networks. That’s what Logistics Engineering is about. Think of products like fashion, electronics, food or cosmetics, all are preceded by major logistical processes which need to be aligned and optimized.

As a Logistics Engineering student you learn to evaluate logistical processes and consequently, come up with new process designs, improvements, and implement these designs and improvements.

What do you focus on?

  • Intelligent production processes to save costs
  • Smart warehousing to guarantee a high customer service
  • Quick transport through air, rail, road or shipping to ensure that your products arrive on demand

Information and Communication Technology

Information and Communication Technology is a bachelor program offered by HZ University ot Applied Sciences.

In this program you get to know another side of the IT sector like Brainstorm about a good software solution for a customer, come up with a cloud solution, build a new application, collect and interpret data to advise a company or work on cyber security. Whether you are interested in the business side or the technical side you will be prepared. During the program you will be able to discover which direction is best for you and teach you everything on the basis of the latest technologies. 

During the 4 year course you will be developing your own skills, as well as frequently work in multidisciplinary teams, meeting the needs of your client and creating an out-of-the-box solution quickly, flexibly and together with your team. At the end you will be well prepared to work in a company and develep yourself as a professional further.
